Philanthropy

Help others benefit from your wealth and leave a legacy that will make the world a better place.

Philanthropy

For many successful individuals who have accumulated significant wealth, their attentions turn to giving something back. Using wealth for the benefit of others is now one of the key financial planning priorities for an increasing number of our clients. The most appropriate way to do this is often via planned philanthropy.

Good philanthropy planning can both maximise the amount available to the causes that you support as well as legitimately helping to mitigate your tax position and reduce your inheritance tax liability. We can provide advice on the most effective ways to support the causes about which you are most passionate both during your lifetime and as part of your legacy.

Before we advise on any philanthropic activity, we ensure that you have sufficient capital to meet your lifetime goals via our financial planning services. Once we can demonstrate that you have sufficient capital available via your existing savings, investments and future earnings to meet your expected lifetime costs, we can provide detailed advice on how any surplus could be used for charitable giving and philanthropy.

We can help with all of the following elements of philanthropy:

  • Philanthropy strategy
  • Tax-efficient donations of cash and assets to charitable causes
  • Establishment and administration of charitable trusts and foundations
  • Creation and ongoing management of ‘Donor Advised Funds’
  • Charitable legacy planning

Typically, philanthropy is an ongoing activity and we’re on hand to help you measure the effectiveness of your donations and other charitable activities. Philanthropic return is not measured in pounds and pence but by the opportunities that your donation extends to those less fortunate than yourself.

Some of the Questions We Can Help Address

We can help answer any questions you may have in relation to philanthropy. Questions such as:

How much can I afford to give?

Which projects or charities should I support?

How do I set up a charitable trust?

What philanthropic projects can I get involved with in my local area?

Which of my investments should I use to give to charity?

What are the tax implications of my philanthropy?

How do I know my gifts are being used effectively?

How do I give anonymously?

How do I meet with other philanthropists in a similar position to me?

What then is the best way to structure a philanthropic gift?

Your wealth can help transform lives

Whichever causes you feel most passionate about, your wealth can help make the world a better place. An effective, affordable philanthropy plan will help you help others in the most effective way.

Did you know… philanthropy and charitable giving is continuing to rise across the world

For the third year in a row, the BNP Paribas Individual Philanthropy Index, based on a survey of 400 individual philanthropists worldwide, increased. The index, which measures the amount of giving, innovation in philanthropic approaches and promotion of causes and organisations, has shown an increase over the past year, as well as an overall upward trend over three years. Another survey suggested that charitable giving is likely to rise by around 5% a year as more and more people give more to charitable causes and set up philanthropic projects.
